Amsterdam 19th November 2008 – The .CO.NL Grandfather phase opened successfully
yesterday at 10:00 am GMT and the first day of registrations has shown some
great interest in the new extension. The numerous official registrars that
partner with the Operator have already submitted a high number of requests and
the numbers will increase in the coming days.

Abstract: In the near term there will be no available, unallocated IPv4
addresses. From original estimates of IPv4 exhaustion in 2037, the most
widely-cited current estimates for ARIN IPv4 address depletion is now
at 2013. This deadline gives a particular importance to IPv6 adoption.
The goals of this work were to identify valid measures of IPv6
diffusion and use classic diffusion models to bound the uncertainty in
those measures.

a new procedure to domain holders who want to change their provider.
The central feature of this new procedure is the transmission of a
password, which is called AuthInfo. The AuthInfo is valid exclusively
for this specific action and is related to one specific domain.

(Australian Domain Name Administrator) and ICANN accredited registrar,
yesterday commenced legal proceedings in the Supreme Court of
Queensland against auDA, the Australian domain name policy and
regulatory body.

The draft Guidebook provides information for those interested in applying for new generic top-level domains.
Designed to accompany the draft Applicant Guidebook is a set of Explanatory Memoranda (http://www.icann.org/en/announcements/announcement-2-21oct08-en.htm) that are intended to assist understanding of the implementation work for new gTLDs.

The 2009 ICANN Nominating Committee (Nom Com) has been convened and met for the first time on 7-8 November, immediately following the 33rd International ICANN Public Meeting in Cairo, Egypt.
Prior to the Cairo meeting, on 28 August 2008, the ICANN Board appointed Tricia Drakes as Nom Com Chair. Tricia has selected Alan Levin as Associate Chair. Due to the bylaws, Hagen Hultzsch, the previous Nom Com Chair will serve as an advisor to the current Nom Com.

Nominet (http://www.nominet.org.uk/), the governing body of the .uk domain space, has not been a happy place since the contentious Board election earlier this year (en/general/keep-greedy-domainer-slime-off-nominet-board.html). Events have really come to a head in the last week.
On November 10, 2008, one of the domainer members of the Board of Directors, Jim Davies, issued a public letter (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/11/10/nominet_resignation_call/page2.html) calling for the resignation of both the CEO, Lesley Cowley, and the Executive Chairman, Bob Gilbert, of Nominet. In his letter, Mr. Davies claims that the CEO and the Executive Chairman have engaged in a campaign against him since his election, including making false allegations, including allegations of criminal conduct, and mishandling complaints against him.

ICANN has selected Sydney as the venue for their June 2009 meeting that they expect around 1,700 experts from around the world to discuss issues regarding the future of the Internet such as new gTLDs, internationalised domain names and the security of the DNS.

.net sale with pisos.net selling for €150,000. “Pisos” means “story” in
Spanish. Other notable sales were aed.nl, selling for €25,500,
rencontre.org (€25,000 – meeting in French), voyance.net (€25,000 –
clairvoyance in French) and telefonbuch-deutschland.de (German
telephone book) selling for €19,500.
